Back in 2001 when I was looking for a truck to pull a TT, I thought I would never need anything more than a 1/2 ton. The salesman even suggested that I buy a 3/4 ton. No way I thought. Well, the 1/2 ton pulled the TT pretty good, until a hill came. Then it was 2nd gear. So in 2005, we bought our current truck. Love the truck! Again, I thought I would never need something bigger to pull a TT with. I was right. That is until we bought our fifth wheel. Sure it pulls it ok. Do I wish I had a 1 ton? Yes. Do I need one? Some would say yes, and some would say no. One thing for sure is the pin weight on a fiver is what kills the 3/4 truck. I would love to put a Onan Gen in the front, but that would definitely put me over my axle weight. Get the 1 ton and be done. Plus, the new trucks ride quite a bit better than the older ones. Jerry.
