Fabric RV covers

I am purchasing a new fifth wheel and I want to provide protection when it is not in use. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the fabric covers such as the ones sold by Camping World. I would especially be interested in the effort required to cover and uncover the rig. I am assuming it is more than a one person job. Would you do it over or is it too much of a hassle.
Thanks,

  • Living in Tucson AZ the regular covers will not last a year. We finally purchased a sunbrella cover. It is guaranteed for the desert for 5 years. After the 3rd time putting it on, we have it down to a simple method. If you get one PM me and I will help you out in putting it on.
  • I also put mine on and take it off by myself. Takes 30 minutes at most, and isn't that difficult. Follow the instructions provided, and each time you take it off you're preparing it for putting it on in the fall.
  • Keeping it out of the sun is worth every penny. You might have to replace the cover every 2-3 years so don't buy an expensive one, but you can tell after 5-10 years which rv's are exposed to the sun and which are not. My 12 year decals still look new. It's not hard to cover by myself(just don't step on a vent)and takes 15-20 minutes. Don't use the blue tarps as that may damage paint.
  • I've always covered my RVs and have had good results. Last year it went into the repair shop in October and due to delay in getting right decals from Keystone, it spent the winter uncovered. When I finally pick it up, what a mess! I didn't think anything could get that dirty just sitting out in the open.

It takes me about 20 minuets cover it and cinch it down. A lot has to do with how you roll it up in the spring. I just pull up the sides fold it to the middle and roll it up front to the back and stuff it in the sack. In the fall I start from the back and roll it out... I can see where all the roof components are and have never stepped on any of them.

I don't need any help, that would just turn it into a project (if you know what I mean).
  • I have a fabric cover for our 31' DP. It is a bit of a bother to cover and uncover. I see no way to do it without walking the top. The cover is very heavy and takes some effort to drag it up there.

Our cover is less than a year old and has several patches. The CB antenna snapped and the sharp end and wind cut a slit. The furnace was left on an burned a small hole. The entry door has snagged the cover and made a small tear.

I still think it is our best solution for protecting our RV from the sun and dirt.
