Fifth Wheel Comparison Guide worth the money?

I am looking to upgrade are old 92 Lance 24' 5th wheel to a good quality use hopefully or maybe a new unit.

1. Is the Travel Trailer & Fifth Wheel Comparison Guide worth the money? It cost around $89.95 for the printed book.

I am trying to education myself on making a good sound purchase this time around without getting taken to the cleaners. I think some people are laughing at me when I said/posted before; I hoping to found a used 5th wheel approximately 5 years old in order to avoid the big depreciation or losing 50% of the valve after the 5th year. I thought a good maximum budget would be a low of $20,000 to as high as $40,000 which is pushing it for me. Hope to pull it with by 99 Dodge 250 cub cab 2X4 Cumming.

Maybe I should just go for it and buy a RedWood 5th wheel starting a $85,000. to $136,000. Then I could be called Boss Hog. I said son that was joke, just a joke. Maybe some great day if and when I retire. I just don't think there is enough pop cans along the roads for me to gather up right now!

Thanks to everyone

Chuck
  • Please tell me which brand of 5th wheel you all bought and how to go about dealing with the private sellers and dealers.

A RV repair shop told me recently if looking for a used unit, look for one that has been stored inside/ covered building. Spend the money, couple of hundred dollars to have an independent RV repair shop inspect it and not a dealership.

Still at the age to 57, realize I have a lot to learn about most every thing.

  • I agree finding a perfect used unit is very tough. I did find one the first 5th wheel we bought but it took a very long time and we had to buy it right then or the people behind us would have.

I bought the book and used it as one piece of the research puzzle. We spent 18 months looking for the "perfect" 3 to 4 year old used 5th wheel, and traveled some good distances to "go look". We never found the diamond in the rough but we had fun trying. It seemed that the private sellers paid too much for theirs initially and wanted too much used, or the used units at the dealers were just not in the condition we could accept. After giving it the college try, we decided that a new one with everything we wanted was just one factory order away.

Good luck and have fun shopping.

Chuck, I believe posting on this site and asking questions might give you better info that that book, if only because the info on this site is probably a little more current in a lot of cases.

Chuck , I agree with this statement... BUT... Just remember that a good number of people that answer will say to buy their brand.. Think about that when reading through all the replies..
Good Luck with your journey to find the perfect trailer! Joe
