My thoughts are enable the use of the bed more easily when not towing. Understand we all have opinions, just wanting input as experience and knowledge is always welcome to us.

Replying without reading ahead, so am likely repeating others, but you should seriously consider a B&W Turnover Ball and FW Companion hitch. Best of both worlds; gooseneck hitch if you need it, FW hitch when you need it and clean bed when no hitch is installed. B&W is also a great company to work with.
