Can't imagine that would be legal anywhere - there's no means of communicating to the driver.
Ok - so what if you did have communication between the FW passengers and the TV driver?
Driver - hey dear, hang on to the kids and yourself - we're going over a cliff.
Wife in FW - you stupid ^%~}#~%, if we live though this!I'm going to kill you anyways. You better hope you die first.
That communication system really helped, didn't it?
Could it happen? It sure could. The FW and its contends can be replaced - lives cannot.
Don't do it. - BumpyroadExplorer

I was reading about fifth wheels and I saw that in some states it is legal to tow with passengers in the trailer. My question is this, would you and have you towed with passengers in the rig?
It is legal in many locations. 1) Must have doors that can't be locked from the outside. 2) Must have comm between FW and TV. 3) (Varies in some states) Must only be a FW and not a ball hitch. Is it smart? Up to you. Is it comfortable? Not really. My wife tried it on one of our first trips and she lasted about 40 miles. Couldn't read, couldn't sew, couldn't walk to the head. Never thought about it since. Personally, I'd ride in one in an emergency...depending on who was driving.

- usmohls2ExplorerNEVER!!! Last time I road in a 5th wheel was the late 50's. Troop transport while serving in the USMC,it wasn't fun.
- judelaurenzo25gExplorerIt blew my mind that it was legal anywhere

- gboppExplorerI know in Pennsylvania it is (or at least was) legal to transport passengers in a 5th wheel, if, you had a PennDot approved communications system between the unit being towed and the tow vehicle.
However, did you ever see a 5th wheel or TT after an major crash or rollover? They usually look like they exploded.
I would never allow anyone to ride in a RV that I was towing.
