- Shadow_GreyExplorerI let the wife fill the tank...that way I don't get wet!
- jalichtyExplorerIf you don't walk away during filling you can also hear when the tank starts getting full by the change of the sounds coming from the fill tube, very similar to filling a gas tank on a car. However, I just generally fill fairly slowly until the water starts coming out of the overflow hose in the bottom of the FW and then turn the flow off so I don't get doused when taking the hose out of the filler tube. It's not rocket science, just common sense.

If concerned with getting wet shoes, you could time how long it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket. Then divide your tank size by 5 and multiply that by how long it took to fill the bucket. Should get you right there.

You would have to do this at every campground you visit since they all have different water pressure. - heaterswaExplorerIf concerned with getting wet shoes, you could time how long it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket. Don't run it full blast either. Slower is better as the tank has to vent out the air that is being displaced by the water. If you run it in too fast the tank will expand like a balloon until it bursts or breaks the floor joists or straps that hold it in place. Expensive repairs you don't want to deal with that is easily avoided by slowly adding water.
Very true. I have seen first hand the results of this. Not pretty... - GintherExplorerAnother option is to get the specs for your rig so you know what your fresh tank capacity is... Then get one of these water meters to measure how much water you add.
- JamesBrExplorerFor me its when it comes flying out of the vent....though after filling it a few times I have an idea of when it should be close to full.
- bigcitypopoExplorersecure fill works great too. it allow the cap to vent too, So the cap and overflow vent are breathing the tank

+1. Full when no more goes in. Gauge is worthless.
+1000 - bpoundsNomadI use this thing. Connects nicely to the fill port. Directs the stream cleanly so it doesn't burp back at you, lets more air escape, and has a shut-off so you can stop the fill instantly. I still wouldn't walk away while it is filling.
