Finding a slide motor for 2001 Coachmen Deluxe RK28

Our 5th is no longer hauled, planted on a lot up north. The motor for the one big 16 foot slideout burned out last fall and the slide with muscles pushed in for the winter. The manual crank no longer usable due to gears failure. Finding a salveged unit turned up zero so far online. And afraid a new unit IF FOUND is very expensive. Still searching at camping suppliers. IF we can move the slide out this summer, option is to leave it out and somehow build a cover over the top somehow as seen in Florida. Any suggestions out there?

  • Call Colaw RV at 877-548-2125. They are a large dealership, with new and salvaged RVs and parts. and they will ship parts to you. give them a call.
  • When a former TT was doing that (being weak going back in) I used a ratchet drive and a socket on the end opposite the motor to help it get over the hump. DW holding the switch inside and me with the ratchet underneath.
I did replace the motor but it was pricey.
Are you sure your batteries are up to snuff?

Thinking back later I remembered that you can also release the clutch at the motor and just crank it in and out manually twice a year. Ours was also a Coachmen so probably the same set up. The other end of the drive rod was either 3 4s or 7 8s.
  • We did find a starter shop nearby where the 5th is on our lot, so there is hope. Now to get up there this summer, remove the motor and see if it is possible to make it work again. Thanks for the suggestion to go that route. Will let everyone know how that goes.
  • Thanks as that was a possibility, though when we get back up there this summer from SC, we have to find a shop somewhere. The slide will come out ok, but getting it back in come Sept. will be fun. Let's hope we can get the motor rebuilt without spending much as we only use the RV for 2 months each year.
  • I took the electric slide motor in my first 5er to a auto shop that rebuilds starters. It cost $70 compared to $600 that Keystone wanted for a new one.
