I am brand-new to this forum. My wife and I are getting ready to enter the world of fifth wheel camping. We are looking for a higher-end, well-built unit since we plan to spend at least 3-4 months a year living in it. I had my heart set on the Keystone Alpine-- attractive floorplans, great features, etc, but lately I have been hearing negative things about the workmanship and more importantly, customer service. We plan to buy within the next 9-10 months and would appreciate any help from you members out there! Comments from Alpine owners?
I think you have learned some very good information. One needs to look past the bells and whisltes and look deeper what is under the skin that isn't obvious. What kind of frame is being used, what kind of tires, brakes and suspension? What are the materials used in contruction, what is the R Factor of the insulation, etc, etc. What is the length of the warranty? Some RV companies are very good at selling the bells and whistles but do not make the best RV. Educate yourself in the construction details, visit the manufacturing plants, dig in what is under the floor and behind the walls. Often one cannot depend on unbiased opinions here on RV.net since many have made a major purchase and are reluctant to admit they may have overlooked some major details on their particular RV. So only depend on your own knowledge and instincts.
