- netjamExplorerWe do. You need to be careful if the outside temp is below 32. Not running the furnace will allow your underbelly (tanks and pipes down there) to cool down and possibly freeze. It is however a great alternative as a supplement to the furnace or total replacement for the furnace when outside temps are above 32.

Does anyone run their fireplace/Heater all night long? It is a lot quieter than the furnace.
Yes, always. We try to strike a balance between furnace and fireplace use so that the furnace does run enough to keep the basement and holding tanks and water lines warm.
Cheers!
Mike - dahkotaExplorerYes. If it is above 40 we just run the fireplace. Below 40 we also run the furnace, set at 60.
- RustyJCExplorerYes, we have the Dimplex fireplace as well as the CheapHeat system on the furnace. With our current 5th wheel (see signature) we have only been in temperatures down around 30 degF where the fireplace working with the CheapHeat system kept everything nice and toasty with heating capacity to spare (both the fireplace and furnace were still cycling) without the use of any propane.
Many times we'll use the fireplace alone if the temps are in the 40s or 50s.
Rusty - lanerdExplorer IIWe just add more quilts....fireplace and furnace off.
- CarlT100ExplorerI also run the furnace and the heater if the temp is approaching freezing.
- Gib3633ExplorerIt's all been covered. Fireplaces are a wonderful option.
- edbehnkeExplorercolo you just figured out that the fireplace is quieter than the furnace? we've been using our fireplace for years when it gets chilly. use your bedroom door to adjust for the temp you want.
and yes, keep it on all night. - Two_HandsExplorerWe had an electric fireplace in our fifth wheel and we really miss it. If it was cold enough we would run it all night.
- pianotunaNomad IIII replaced the cold air return grill for the furnace with dual window fans. I added a mechanical thermostat and placed it near the outside wall of the cavity so warm air gets 'pushed' through the system. As a side benefit a small amount of air flows through the duct work. That lets me heat 100% electrically.
I've used this at -37 c (-34 f).
