Ok this post kind of went the other way but I am good with that. Thank you for all the information. Of course I want (well actually the wife wants) the biggest fifth wheel we can get. However I want to be safe also. So here are all the facts I found to hopefully answer the questions each of you posed above:
- Tow Vehicle is 2015 Chevrolet 2500HD CC 4x4 Z71 LTZ with Duramax/Allison combo (changing tow vehicles is not an option).
- After market tires are Nitto Terra Grappler G2 LT305-55-20 Load/Speed Rating 121/118S Max Load 3195@65 PSI.
- Right off the sticker on the truck: GVWR 10000 lbs, GAWR FRT 5200 lbs, GAWR RR 6200 lbs.
- Occupants for the time being: 2 adults and 2 teenagers and 3 dogs. Probably the total weight added to the truck is less than 900 lbs plus hitch and fuel.
- Off Chevrolet website:
.........FIFTH-WHEEL/GOOSENECK TRAILER WEIGHT RATING: 17,100
.........GCWR: 24,500
.........Kingpin Weight: 15-20% of total loaded trailer weight not to exceed 3,000 lbs.
So when I was looking at trailers I was looking for things that were under the 17,100 GVWR and under 3,000 kingpin weight. I looked at GVWR and not dry weight.
Make Model / Dry Hitch Weight / GVWR
2016 Jayco Pinnacle 36FBTS / 2,555 / 15,950
2016 FR Cardinal 3875 FB / 2,490 / 16,170
2016 Big Country 3950FB / 2,825 / 16,000
2016 Big Horn 3875FB / 3,010 / 16,000
2016 Prime Time Sanibel / 1,550 / 15,000
If all of these trailers are too heavy then what is the max GVWR and Hitch weight that is safe? I guess I would have to know that and then back to the drawing board.
