- MLATIONExplorerI have a 2013 F350 CC 4x4 LB with 3.55 gears. Started pulling at about 700 miles. If you look in both manuals (truck and diesel addm)you will find one says drive 1000 miles and the other says 500 miles. I don't think it really matters to much. You're mainly trying to seat in the rear diff gears. The engines are already broken in when you get it.
Think about this. Fleets buy a lot of trucks. They go straight to the outfitters where they add thousands of lbs to them with under 100 miles on the odo. The company get the trucks, hooks up trailers or what have you and drive them.
So, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
On another note. I get about 11.5-12.5 pulling @ 70ish and about 14-15 unloaded on the highway at our posted speeds which 75 and 80 depending on where you are on I15.
I don't expect mileage to increase that much due to every time it does an active exhaust regen, you lose mileage. And they will do active regens while towing but most are passive.
One thing to remember. ***Do not put DEF in the fuel tank*** you'll destroy the injector pump and injectors, which is a very expensive oops. I've seen some post where dealers have charged up to $12k for the repair. - broark01Explorer

Are you all talking about the same engine or are we going back and forth between 6.7 and a gasser?
I ask because I am looking at replacing my current truck with a F 350 6.7L next year.
Would like to get a larger trailer in a few years.

Have my books in front of me for a 2012 F350 SRW 6.7. Note the difference in SRW GCWR between the Diesel/Gasoline:
Gasoline 3:73 19000 lbs
Gasoline 4:30 22000 lbs
Diesel 3:31-3.73 23500 lbs - Traveler_IIExplorerMy dealer told me the same thing that is posted in the Ford manual about putting 1,000 on before towing and for the first few hundred miles to vary the speed. So I’m doing what I’ve been told—can’t hurt. We have a month before we take off for our winter travels so I’m just using the truck to get use to it and break it in.
- blue_trawlerExplorerGood question but I seem to be ok ! At this point!
The book is a generic type , fits all ford trucks, I guess! It Was telling me how to retract the mirrors .. To lift switch and pull back! I tried and tried, I called the dealer and he said No just center switch to white dot and pull back the switch. Small errors but I didn't know. Also a few other things.
Nav system is a bit squirrelly , we were at our distinction in the campground and it said " distination on left 200 ft". That was across the street. Small things but its a great truck and no problems pulling thru the mountains of Colorado !
Bruce - avvidclif1ExplorerFord says don't tow, the dealer says you can. Who's going to pay the repair bill if it breaks, Ford or the dealer? Ford didn't print that book for toilet paper.

Thanks but don't remember! Did I lie on anything? Story still the same? Lol
Bruce - blue_trawlerExplorerTraveler,
I got my truck on a weds and had about the same mileage and the dealer did I didn't have to wait! So, I hooked up and drove 1700 miles. No problems! We will find all sorts of misinformation in your booklet!
Bruce - Traveler_IIExplorerJust got a 2014 F350 with a 3.31 rear axle. The manual states I need to put a 1,000 miles on it before I tow the first time, only have 200 right now but it's a great truck so far.
- azchuckmoExplorerI tow a 30' with my 350 with the 3.31 rear end.
- buc1980ExplorerI order my 2011 350 DRW with 2 wheel drive and 3:73 rear axle.
