Just ordered a new 5er and looking for a truck to pull it (21K GVWR).According to Ford's website, I should be able to get a 2016 F350 4X4 dually diesel that has a 14K GVWR with a 6460 payload capacity. The problem is when I went to look at one last week the label on the door stated ~5400 lbs payload. To me that doesn't make much sense since I doubt the vehicle's unladen weight is 8600 lbs. Shouldn't GVWR-CCC=unladen? I did verify the vehicle did indeed have a 14K GVWR placard. The GCWR is 35K which should be well within the limits of the combo.In addition I'm trying to decide between the 3.73 and the 4.30 rear end. I understand the 4.30 has a 3K greater towing capacity (26.5K vs 23.5K) but will likely burn more fuel. I really don't understand the other advantages of the 4.30.I had considered the F450 but oddly enough the payload is stated at only 5300 lbs which is really confusing to me.We plan to full time and travel the US so I'd like to get this right the first time.

Yes, the door sticker payload weight, should be the actual truck weight, as optioned, minus the GVWR. The web site weights do not reflect all available options.My truck shows a sticker payload of 3,232, which is actual weight of my truck, plus the 3,232 added together to reach 10,000 GVWR.Jerry

You've been around here long enough that you should know that it's not what you can TOW, it's what you can CARRY. The truck's payload is based on a stripped, 2wd, gasser, single cab, with no options. When you start adding stuff, including people, fuel, hitch and "stuff", that all comes off the base payload. The sticker on the door is what's "left over" after the diesel engine goes in, the extra cab is added and the 4wd is put in place. That's where you "lost" that 1,000 lbs. You add a good hitch, that's another ~200 lbs; 2 people is another ~300 lbs; more people means less usable payload for the FW. With a 21k GVW on the FW, you're solid into a 450, or bigger, truck; again, IMO.As for the rear end, if you plan on traveling extensively in the western U.S. and Canada, get the 4.10. If you plan on doing most of your traveling east of the Rockies, the 3.73 would be fine. You gain both easier uphills and more engine braking on the downhills with the 4.10; you gain MPG with the 3.73, but sacrifice on the other side.Lyle

Jeff, if you don't think a 350 4x4 drw doesn't weigh 8600 lbs take it out for a test ride and drop by a scales.

My 2015 F350 DRW diesel is an XL with just a few options and my payload is just a tad over 5800 pounds with a 14k GVWR. I know it scales at roughly 8200 pounds after several trips to our local transfer station with trash. We get weighed going in and out to determine what we pay for the load we leave. I would think a Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum models would all cut well into that payload as they have many more options than the XL model.

When I talk to them about adding the third axle I will ask them if they found a Bilstein shock to fit the IS system. If so I will have them install 6 of them.

Thanks for that info. I was planning to go back to MorRyde and DRV in the Spring to have some warranty work done. The RV was delivered to us in May so I want to get back there before the one year is up. I am sure I will get the third axle added at that time since it has to be completely torn apart to add the riser. I will have DRV add the 3 axle fender skirt before going to MorRyde.

Bad part about going to Mor/ryde is...the roads in Indiana are horrible.

I guess it is to make sure he Mor/Ryde IS is working.

Cummins 12V98, Had my risers done at MorRyde this past June. They are pretty good people. You get to stay inside overnight when they tear you apart two day job. Make sure you have them measure your height when they complete the job. If you need any warranty work stop by DRV they do a good job with the repairs. Might even fix things you don't know are broke. Been there twice. Just call and make an appointment. Good Luck. Last thing a lot of folks don't have any idea how heavy these things are. But they handle so nice behind them Rams.

At 23K what size axles are on that beast? Even with 5k on the truck you have 18k on the axles.

MorRyde IS axles. The axle weight is 17,500#. I know the IS is no problem with that weight and the GY H tires still have more capacity left at 4,800# per tire = 19,200#.

I am thinking about adding a third axle when I have the 2" riser added at the MorRyde factory. It would be a pretty simple add at that point since the axles have to be removed for the 2" riser.

mine weighs 5K over the 18K they "SAY" it weighed at the factory. I wish I could have weighed it when taking delivery. NO WAY even with the 6500 gen I have added 5K!!!

The numbers just don't jive. Even at 16k on the axles (2 8k axles) that leaves 7k on the pin... sumpthin' wrong with this picture.
