Forever licience

I renewed My plates for our 5th wheel and was asked, Do you want 3 year or Permanent plates. Missouri legislation has passed a bill that only applys to 5th wheels. Only a few $'s more and as long as i own this 5th wheel I never have to renew. Who would have thought? I asked why just 5th wheels and She did not know.

  • I just called DMV. In Mo. 26.00 for three yr. and 56.00 for permanent. 5th wheel's only. So it look's like Missouri has one of the lower rates.
  • Same thing in PA. It's supposed to be for big rig trailers, but a fifth wheel technically counts. Just $127.00 and I never have to register the thing again. It pays for itself in five years.
  • How long do you intend to keep the trailer? Do the math and see if you'll come out ahead.
I keep my trailers and trucks a long time so I generally get permanent plates. VA allows it for any trailer and for trucks above a certain weight class.
I don't know how much money I've saved over the years but it has been substantial. A side benefit is not having to pay attention to when your tags need to be renewed.
  • dbbls, Are you saying Missouri has been issuing these plates for years, if so most of the office's did'nt know it. I have talked 10 or so 5th wheel owners in Mo. and none of them were aware of it, and why just 5th wheels?
  • Michigan has had that on all trailers for about ten years now, $200 for my 5th wheel trailer , one time pay.
  • This law has been on the books for several decades. Was passed for big rigs but applies to RV's also.
  • Makes you wonder who in that legislature has a 5th wheel!

Strange. But in case, strange is good.
