I can't tell any difference between towing with a dually vs my 2011 F350 single rear wheel. My theory is that people buy a new truck that feels much more stable than their 7 year old 3/4 ton did and then they attribute it all to the dual wheels. I think if your pulling with a new 1 ton srw and find it is unstable your problem is something other than the number of tires.
Never towed this 5er with a SRW truck that was 7 years old. BUT, I did tow it with a 2012 3500 SRW Ram truck from Asheville NC to my camp in WV when I was waiting for my 13 to get a hitch I could tow with...Truck did an awesome job.,, (hey, wasn't mine:)), it had a 5er hitch in it and had about 7500 miles on it, was a loaded Longhorn that my dealership let me use...they felt SOOOOOOO bad about me waiting for delivery of my 13', then not being able to tow with it, that I was given this truck to move my 5er with...So, the 5er weighed in at 15,980 at the time and I towed it over the exact same Interstate and secondary roads that I had towed it with my 2010 and 2012 Ram dually trucks....So, that, at the time wasn't even a year old truck....I could tell a difference in the "sway" and/or "movement" of the 5er being towed with the 2012 3500 SRW truck as opposed to the 2010, 2012 and 2013 3500 Dually's...towing experience "I" experienced, as well as my wife's observations were that the "towing experience" was a more stable one.
I know you didn't want to hear that, I don't care if you believe it or not. I have zero reasons to lie about it, nor does my wife, who only experienced the driving while towing expereince and going up , down and all around the secondary mountainous, quite curvy roads we towed on in Va and Wva....
Sad part, as you've seen is that the MAJORITY agree with my assessment on the difference in towing experiences with the dually versus a SRW truck, especially, as I"ve stated in my examples I've given time after time after time.
I have no idea what Fords older dually does compared to a newer SRW truck. If I had your 5er, I wouldn't tow it with a SRW truck, it would be a dually, but I'm not real smart, just concerned more about safety...and evidently, I tow in some much more mountainous, steep , very curvy mountainous roads than you do, or at least towed the same 5er, at the same weight, over the same terrain with 2 brand new SRW and DRW trucks...not enough age difference to argue the point...I had actually "thought " about looking at the 1 ton SRW truck knowing how much more weight it can handle...and the new Ram could handle mine, but I COULD tell enough difference in the stablitiy in the towing experience with both trucks on two seperate almost 300 mile trips through the mountains of NC, TN, VA and WV.. and decided, I liked the "more stable" towing experience, "IN MY CASE", then I did the towing experience with the 3500 SRW truck
My experience, and thus the reason....as the TITLE of this thread suggest...YEP, Dually forever.....strickly from my very own personal experiences
