Fresh Water Tank Sensor

Question

My fresh water tank sensors have always worked fine but this weekend it read empty even though I had filled it before leaving home. I hooked up the hose and it took very little water to fill the tank. Today I took the cover off the command center, moved all the wires and cleaned a little dust off the board but nothing changed the reading. My tank is at the rear of the trailer and the galvanized panel cannot be removed due to stabilizers and a factory welded trailer hitch going from frame to frame. We only take the trailer to a country place that has a water system so we will always have water available but it will be a little unhandy not knowing when it is getting low and need to have some added.

All the water level lights flash quickly when the button is pushed but then it only shows empty. Anyone have any suggestions over what I have already done? Thanks Don

Were you able to diagnose this issue? Mine is doing the same thing. I'm not sure how the sensors are supposed to work on mine. I've seen others where there are probes at empty, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full. Mine just has 2 wires covered in some foil tape. Not sure how that's supposed to work, but it doesn't. It reads empty all the time.

Jimmy:Have not pursued any farther.  When it cools off this fall I may cut an access hole in the bottom and see if I can get to the sensors.  It may be something like a bad ground.  I've got a 3"x3" tubing that's part of the factory installed hitch that is welded across the frame right under the tank so I may not be able to get to them. I really don't pay much attention to the sensors, as many of them do not work. Bought a new Cameo, and it didn't take but a few months and one of them was false. My fresh water is about the only one that does work properly. When I first started RVing, it bothered me. Today I usually have an idea when the various tanks need attention.

That's what I've read - is that the fresh water is typically the most reliable. I've found the opposite is true with mine, though! Gray and black monitors seem to be pretty close to accurate. Fresh water just reads "E" all of the time so I suspect there's a broken connection somewhere.

Like I said - it's only 2 wires with the sensors through the tank, about a foot apart from each other in the middle of the side of the tank. I'm not sure how it's supposed to work.

More research required.....

Okay - it looks like mine was manufactured by Larsen (1984 Tiffin Allegro), who was taken over by Snakeriver electronics, who ultimately became TechEdge. It uses 2 sensors and foil tape. I'm going to take the aluminum tape off to see what I've got. I have some new aluminum tape left over from my fridge repair that I can put back on.
