I had mine replaced by the dealer last Sept. while the 5er was in for a list of repairs. That end piece's main function isn't to stop bugs from getting in. This drain tube needs to have a āPā trap before exiting the lower access panel. Condensation drains are designed to allow condensation to escape and prevent ambient air from reaching the cooling fins."
There was no P trap in mine that I replaced. The cap that protrudes thru my access panel does keep bugs out. That tiny 1/8" drain hole in the drain pan below the cooling fins inside the frig is not going to allow air of any amount into frig. Also when you open the door and then close it i will guarantee you the air pressure will blow the water right out of the P trap.
What about all the "ambient" that goes into the frig when opening the door?
Also make sure nothing blocks that little drain hole in the drip pan below the cooling fins, you will have a mess!
