Frig. drain hose ???

We have an 09 Bighorn with a Dometic frig., how do I change the drain hose that runs from the rear of the frig. down the back and out the vent. I have extended it twice as it has broken off but it is too brittle now and has to be changed. Thanks

  • Funny you posted this. I have to replace mine and was just searching for the same thing earlier today. Just bought some 1/2" vinyl tubing.

  • Here's a good if a bit pedantic video on how to change the tube. Fridge drain hose replace
Skip to about the 2 minute mark. It's also just a bit more difficult to replace with the fridge in place, but I have done it with the clear plastic tube.

I did exactly this, by sliding the frig. out I can see everything, will pick up vinal tubing in the morning. Thanks

Very welcome. Pay it forward by sharing an experience with someone else!

I replaced mine with some clear vinyl tubing from Home Depot. 1/2" IIRC. I had to remove some of the molding on the front of the fridge, then remove the 2 screws that hold it in. Slid it out about 3-4 inches (just enough to see the connection). Removed the corrugated plastic tubing, and slid the new vinyl on. No pressure involved, so I didn't use a hose clamp. Oh, and I got some replacement "bug screens" from my local RV parts dealer.

    Hope this helps....

  • My refrigerator is located in the slide out so it was a little easier to change the hose by removing both the upper and lower vent. Like SAR Tracker I got some clear vinyl tubing. If you go to the trouble to change it make sure you install it properly. The hose should extend down and then back up to where it exits. That loop fills with water and blocks air from entering the refrigerator. Without that it is a direct shot into the unit for cold to exit or warm to enter. Some say you can make a 8 - 11 degree difference. I can't say that is totally accurate but it has to help the cooling.
