Front Landing Legs making noise

The front landing legs on my trailer are making a bad squeaking and rubbing noise. The trailer is a year old and I haven't had this problem before.
Could the motor be going bad already?
I don't see where there are any lube zerks to grease them. Is there something I should be doing maintenance wise on the legs?

Thanks for any help!
  • Mine was making a lot of noise and was making the motor over head and stop. It finally starting to seize so I had to replace my one side. Not too hard to do. There is no lube on the main jack screw only on the top gears and no way to lube it when it is in. Got my replacement at E-trailer.com
  • Thanks for the helpful tips. Marking the tube at full extension makes a lot of sense. I think I have been over extended a couple of times.

Quote from my Venture Landing Gear Owners Manual

Venture landing gear is lifetime lubricated and should never require maintenance.

But as I posted...I spray the inner/outer tubes and have dropped a dollop of grease on top of bevel gear under the cover.

I really don't think 'lifetime lube' cuts it. The jack screw does not get any additional lube unless modifications to tube have been done......drilling a hole to squirt lube in or add a jerk fitting.

DO you have something different from Venture as to lubing?

  • With it hitched to truck drop the inner legs fully then spray the tubes with dry graphite lubricant. Then extend outer tubes fully and spray them

And as mentioned......glob of all purpose bearing grease can be added to top gears by popping cover of top of assembly

And while you have those outer tubes (driven part) fully extended........paint a red line 1" down from top. When lifting 5vr do not go beyond red line. You can damage gears/jack shaft etc. when fully extended under weight because landing gear will continue to run when reaching full travel until you let go of switch
  • My FW has grease zerks about 6"s down, from the top of the legs. Mine also seemed a little noisier, after a year or two. I added a couple squirts of grease to each leg, and all was good since.

You can also remove the top caps, and add grease by hand, to the gears, but my gears there, looked good.
