Front to rear Porpoising

OK, 16,200 GVW, 12,700 on the axles, 3200 on the pin. Trailer wants to porpoise while towing, In other words the rear drops down while the front maintains the same height, causing a up and down movement on the truck.

What can be done to correct this?

  • I would check the pin weight with the trailer fully loaded, garage full and all. My bet the pin is too light. Filling the fresh water tank may help, if it is forward of the axles.
  • If it is in fact the rear of the truck bouncing up and down, either an air pinbox, or a air hitch would absorb most - to almost all the movement you are seeing. In addition airbags would tend to lessen the rebound of the rear springs on the truck when whatever motion is left occurs.
