Fuel Station Tank

Now that my racing life has come to an end, we're going to be "just camping". 95% of the time, we'll be at campgrounds plugged into shore power. But I still want to get a generator on our next hauler and most come with them anyway.

In the past, keeping a full 30-40 gallons of fuel in the tank was normal for us. We would use most of that at each race weekend. But now, it won't be the case.

I guess I'll keep it full of fuel with Sta-Bil for that occasion we'll need it. Plus it will keep everything inside the fuel system from drying out or cracking. But at the same time, seems like extra weight just sitting there. Not to mention, a safety hazard.

What do others do? Do you haul around a full tank of fuel even though you may only use it exercising the generator from time to time?

You might want to repost this as a new thread rather then a reply as your post is off topic in this thread and might not get many replies to your statement.

  • We are looking at switching from a motorhome to a trailer in the future. If we do it will be a toy hauler so that we can have the built in generator not for hauling toys. With the heat we deal with in this part of the country we want to run the generator so we can run the AC as we travel. This way if we want to stop for lunch it will be cool and when we set up at the end of the day it will be cool and not have to try to cool down before it is comfortable. Also thinking of a small chest freezer in the toy area. In addition gas stations in some of the place we go are few and far between so it would be nice to have the gas for the truck if needed.
  • I use to keep my tank full and either add stabilizer or look for non-ethanol fuel. My generator was run twice a month and toys were always topped from the toy hauler.
  • We have kept our tanks full or nearly full since we purchased our TH almost 9 years ago. We only bring the toys maybe half the time we are out camping these days. Just use stabil and an occasional bottle of seafoam for genny tank and the cheap gas we fill our tanks with has always been usable.
  • When I had a toy hauler, I kept the fuel tank full (with stabill) all the time... Regardless of whether we were riding any time soon or not.

Having 60 gallons of unleaded on board worked out great when we had an ice storm and no power for 5 days.

Also nice for filling up the mower - I never had no need to have gas cans in the garage LOL

I kind of miss having the fueling station - if for garage work alone - now that we have a traditional 5th wheel.
  • I keep the generator partly full to exercise the generator every month.

I fill the fuel station tank before I park the rig for the summer, then use it to fuel up my lawn tractor all summer.
  • Always full. Add stabil when it is going to sit for longer than 1 month.
  • I keep mine at least 3/4 full. I run my generator for 4 to 6 hours every month under load plus I refuel my motorcycle from the tank. I just add Sta-Bil when I add gasoline.
