FYI Repairs

The worst damage done to our RV was on a trip to Alaska. We hit a long very steep downhill grade that was gravel and quit bumpy. After we found a place to pull over, we found a stereo speaker that came loose from the ceiling and the recliner (that wasn’t strapped down) has slid forward while ripping a fire bottle from the wall. The speaker was easily fixed, the fire bottle was moved to the forward basement storage area and a larger fire bottle installed behind the recliner. No big deal, the trip to Alaska was fantastic. We highly recommend a trip to Alaska by RV.

There is always something to be repaired, maintained or upgraded.

For us the major expenses have been running gear upgrades. Things like spring hanger area major modification, spring upgrade from 6 to 7 leaf, blingy aluminum wheels, bearing & brake replacement & the usual tire replacement as needed.

Inside the only big item has been a fridge replacement.

Spread it all out I guess it is around $1500 a year average for parts etc.

We have been RVing for 26 years and are on #6 . We have owned many different brands. I always keep a list going of things that need to be fixed or upgrades we want to do. It is rare for my list to be cleared out completely. Without the list I would never remember our fifth wheel had any issues at all.

Drawer brackets break from having too much weight in them!! Been there done that. Tell DW to stop putting so much stuff in them.

Consider yourself lucky. Those few things are NOT a lot of repairs!

If this was your first time in Florida you better get those air conditioning coils cleaned before you head back. They will be coated with the dreaded green mold and pollen stuck to that. You'll be amazed after you have them cleaned how much better your ac runs and how much cooler your coach will be inside.

Put all your posessions in a box and shake it up for 6 or 8 hours and see what needs repairs. That's what a road trip in an RV is. :)

FYI=today I had the task of removing and cleaning the toilet and the internal fittings. Tomorrow it will be something else. It is always something with the RV.

BTW My sticks and stucco house is much easier to maintain than the RV. The rabbits cut and fertilize the lawn and the dog poops in the arroyo, so it is maintenance free.

You're not alone. In fact, it appears you're probably better off than most.

And the benefit is that you aren't also fixing and maintaining a s&b.

Comparing how many hours per week we used to spend fixing, maintaining, and cleaning our s&b to how many we spend on the same with the RV, the RV takes about 1/5 the time the s&b did.

I have noticed a trend. It appears that there seems to be more maintenance and repairs on the rigs that are being lived in, as opposed to the weekend campers.
