There are hybrid inverters from Magnum, Victron, and a few others that will "blend" power from any source and draw "extra" power as needed from the battery bank. I find mine most convenient when I only have a single 15 amp shore power connection. I can draw seven additional amps for as long as my battery bank lasts. It takes care of start up surge from, for example, an air conditioner. It is referred to by Magnum as "load support".
Load support is not voltage support unfortunately, for that, an autoformer is needed.
These are NOT what is found in an inverter generator.
