Going from 5vr to Toy Hauler

I have made the decision to move from our 40ft 5vr to a 34ft Toy Hauler. I am looking at the Keystone Fuzion 301. I have two questions:

How will towing a 40ft 5vr compare to towing a 34ft Toy Hauler? I feel comfortable towing long and heavy loads and my truck is capable of the load but I wanted opinions on things like overall length and turning radius. Any other things you would point out?

Secondly, we really liked this Toy Hauler (floor plan, build quality, etc). Any opinions on this unit? Are there similar trailers you would recommend?

TIA

One question I have about the bumper pull trailers has to do with backing up.

I understand that when you use a sway control bar that you must disconnect it before backing up. That sounds like a bit of a pain, especially if you just need to quickly backup to negotiate a turn or something.

    Any input?

You must be thinking of friction sway control and yes, with those you need to disconnect when making very tight turns. With an equalizer or dual cam set-up which I have on my 3118 Raptor there is no need to disconnect anytime while tight maneuvering.

Thank you. I believe what my friend has is the friction type system and that's why I had the question.

  • I've had a Raptor 3110TT. It pulls perfectly. FYI, I have an equalizer hitch that wasn't set up at the dealer correctly. I pulled it home and wondered what was wrong. Equalizer has a great how to set up their hitch video that I'd recommend.

The trailer is awesome. We just got back from a 700 mile each way trip to the Black Hills. We encountered some wind that was hardly noticable. Set everything up right and you'll be really happy.

BTW, I've never undone my hitch to back up.

    Best wishes.

I have pulled two different bumper pull toy haulers with EH and sway control bar and never disconnected to back up

This Toy Hauler has twin 7,000 lb rated axles with 16" tires. We will not have any heavy toys to haul.

    What do you think?

  • We went from a 36 ft TH 5vr to a 36 ft TH bumper pull. The 5vr pulled good but was heavier. We are very
happy with the smaller bumper pull. We still have one slideout. We went from one heartland to another.
