We just recently purchased a Good Sam GPS powered by Rand McNally model RVND 7735 LM. We plugged it in 3 days ago and it still hasn't charged. The screen on it flashes constantly with the good sam logo and was wondering if this was normal? Also, we can't even turn it on while its plugged in at the house. Haven't tried it in the truck yet with the 12 volt plug but hope it works while plugged in to the truck other wise what good is it. It seemed like it had all the features we wanted so that's why we purchased it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an early model Rand McNally. No that is not normal.Have you pushed the "reset" button?Have you downloaded Rand McNally dock?Then you can connect to the computer and download program and troubleshooting.

Sounds like a defective battery.I have a 7710 and it has never done anything like that in 4 years.I agree that you should just return it. Even if you get it to work, the possibility of sudden failure will always be with you.

hopefully I can return it. we bought it a month ago when we got our new 5vr, but just now tried to charge the battery and play with it. I got the 2 year protection plan so hopefully that will cover it if they don't take it back or replace it. Should we get a different model or just have them replace it with the same?

Ours is about a year old, most of the time it works, but the other day I turned it on and it didn't come on until later in the day.

It is hard to read, we have the sun screen and glare shield, but it's still hard to read. I can't recommend the GS GPS.

Tried a sunshade ?

I have not. I thought about making one. It should not be too hard to do.
But then I discovered that the display unit by itself, would fit into the recess where the speedometer, and gauges are mounted. This recess has it's own sun shade, and keeps the display out of the sun most of the time.
It also puts the unit where it is quick to the eye. I think it's going to be a win-win for me.

Jim have you tried one of the clip on sunshades? If you don't like theirs you should be able to make one fairly easy. I use one all the time.
