- Brian_C1ExplorerJust curious as to where the height restriction is. We went through there twice last summer in both directions and had no issues other than staying in the center lane and out of the right lane near the concourse.
Our rig is 12' 7" high - crazymcsExplorerThere is a height restriction on part of the BQE. You will have to get off and take side roads for a few exits.
- Brian_C1ExplorerWe live on Long Island and used the BQE a couple of times over the last year as an alternative to the Cross Bronx. It's actually much better than it used to be. As was mentioned there are some areas where it gets a bit tight but the road surface is not as bad as it used to be. Then again, just like a typical NYC road it's rough compared to just about anywhere else in the U.
- LinkbeltspeederExplorerI will be coming up from Florida going out on the Island. Used to live on LI and have travelled both routes, just not lately. I know the pitfalls, just wondering if the BQE has gotten any worse. Thanks for your respons. Mike
- PapPappyExplorerGoing from where to where?
It will depend on the time of day.....about 4:00 AM, and I might consider it with an RV....but that is only allowing about a half-hour window to make the trip.
Cross Bronx is a bit better....maybe an hour or so window:B
Actually, if you are just trying to get across the city, heading up I-95, I'd take the Cross Bronx...it's more direct, and the faster you get through, the better.
Road wise, they are about the same....pot holes by the dozens, and a bit nerve racking because of the walls along side the right lanes on both.
I you were going out to Long Island, then, maybe I'd take the BQE to the L.I.E., because it would get me on there more directly than going over the extra bridges.
Still, it really depends on where you are going to, and where you are coming from.
