- Sunnyside42ExplorerWe're looking a GD ourselves. I really like the construction of the open range, but prefer a few of the layouts in the GD lineup better. Looks like both lines are pretty close. The toy hauler options from GD are currently pulling us in their direction.

Sorry, I highjacked the post! I noticed or failed to notice any significant difference between rigs with/without end caps, and "me again" commented, and has commented in the past that he would buy a Grand Design 5th wheel in a moment, if and only if they had an end cap. I was simply trying to get someone to educate me, (I thought that was the whole reason for these forums), as to what could possibly be so important about an end cap to not even consider a brand! - PatReneeExplorerOpen Range is built better... In my opinion at least...

Rob - 2008WildcatExplorerAll a matter of opinion.
A lot of motorohomes do not use rear caps, and they are much more than the towable 5th wheels.Moderator edit to re-size picture to forum recommended limit of 640px maximum width.
- topjimmyExplorerFor me it is a deal breaker when I am spending 65K+ on a 5er like the GD Solitude the "Flat Backer" looks like a Bumper pull trailer or other brands Entry level 5er's.(like the GD Reflection).and that is no problem because that is one of the many ways to keep the cost down on a mid and entry level 5er's but THIS is the way a 65K+ 5er should look....

- jalichtyExplorerThat can't be the exact same trailer since it doesn't have a cap. It might be the same model without the cap. And, I fail to see why not having a cap is a deal-breaker if the floorpan is what a person wants. By the way, how much increase in mpg did you get with the cap compared to the one without the cap, a huge amount or 10ths of a mile per gallon?
- goducks10ExplorerMaybe RV parks could get a designated Rear Cap Less area so us Cap Less owners won't feel like trailer trash.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread many do not know what a rear cap is.It's easy to do without it if you never seen it or notice it.
While I do like a rear cap. I don't see it as a deal breaker.
How important can it be if you never noticed the difference?
First picture is of a rear cap. Notice there is depth to the rear it is not a flat panel but a actual cap that goes on the rear of the RV similar to a front cap. The depth can be really seen at the corners.
Rear cap 1st photo vs. 2nd photo where rear is basically a flat panel no capModerator edit to re-size picture to forum recommended limit of 640px maximum width
Thank you, now that I see them side to side I can see the difference! Although I still have to say not a deal breaker in my book!
