Great service from RV supplier for our lock problem

We had a lock on our storage area get jammed recently and we couldn't lock it. Our 5er has the round tubular cam locks with the round keys. They are very secure and have unique combination, not like the 751 locks that many RVs have that allows one key to access all. We didn't have a service key which allows you to reset the lock if it gets fouled.

Anyway I called the manufacturer, Industrial Lock and Hardware, and explained our problem. They asked me to send them the lock and our key. I did that and they called me 2 days later when they received it to tell me that were sending me an additional key, a service key, new washers, nylon nuts, and flat nuts for all of my locks on the rig along w/ my original lock and key. On top of that they wouldn't take anything for the service or the postage to ship it to me. I was really thrilled to see that some companies still want to go above and beyond the call of service for customers.

I really wanted to just let others know how helpful they were and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend their locks for your rig if you carry items of value. We carry quite a few tools in our volunteer service to camps/schools in bad areas so having good locks is important to us.

IF you have the round tubular locks with rounds keys you've got their product on your rig so rest assured that this supplier does support their product.

  • "Simple....locks keep honest people honest"..... say what... you mean there are dishonest honest people,..... Old Biscuit is correct. You don't need a lock or key for the compartments any cheap screw driver will pop them open regardless of how much you paid for the lock...However whatever makes one feel better is good. Our Rv does not use the 751 key for the compartments but can still pop them open easily.

    Sorry to break the news......

A Dollar Tree on sale flat blade screw driver will still pop them locked compartments open faster than you can do it with the key regardless of the type of lock used.

You could put a $50 lock on them but they are still a $2 door/frame.

Insurance covering the 'contents' is needed.

That may be true, but I would still rather not have locks that every yayhoo in a campground has a key to. The same rationale could be applied to not locking your home because a hammer to the window would make it accessible.

I'm guesiing that you have 751 locks.

Old "breaking (no pun) news", LOL!

The flat blade "key" - yes.

The $2 door/frame. Yes - BUT... try to replace one for $2!..:R
    (Why you don't lock them).

    Solution (other than insurance):
    1. Non-locking thumb turn latches.
    2. Don't keep anything of "real value" in compts.
(Never had anyone steal my assorted "stuff", sewer hose etc.).
