Grey valve open

The posts and comments are getting ridiculous so it is time to close this thread. Too much trolling going on.

I read too many times, people come back to a water mess because a fitting started to leak or something else bursts. That's not to say that he mess can't start while you are in your RV, but at least you might be able to keep it from being catastrophic.

Not really!

Don't know anyone that "heads to town with the dishwasher and washer running". In fact don't really know that many that even have those things...I would venture to say on the whole most people don't even have those options. But if you do and want to "head to town" with those things actually running thats on the individual.

Shower issue? No problems! After doing this for awhile we dump all tanks 4-6 days depending on what we think the usage was.

When stuff is flushed, it should not allow any sufficient amount of air to come back up as the pressure it creates should cause the air to go up the vent...not up the toilet at the same time. That's the whole purpose of the vent.

Something is not computing here and it sounds like maybe your vent is not operating as designed. Perhaps the pipe is sticking too far down into the tank and is being blocked when the tank is full or nearly full. Just a guess on my part, but I do suspect you have something that's not working correctly.

With all due respect, I'm not trying to argue with you...just trying to point out that maybe you might look at this from a different angle.

Perhaps there is a fan on that creates a draw and odors come up thru the opening when flushing.

What temps are you in? The tanks gets VERY smelly in 90-120 temps very easily.

Also think about the fact the bowl has a 3" opening and the vent is 1.5". Path of least resistance.

The post you quoted was talking about the design and operation of the sewer system AT THE CAMPGROUND, not in the trailers.

At a campground most people have the wherewithal to form a p-trap in the drain hose to prevent any such back feed of sewer gasses. Evidently some are not aware if that.
It does not matter whether its a trailer or a motorhome, the p-trap will prevent it from happening.
