Help with bunkhouse fifth wheel selection

My wife and I decided this summer to start looking for a camper. I've got three boys 9 to 13 years in age. We really like the bunkhouse floorplans. I think we can find a good used camper, maybe 2004-2010 or so. I have a boat and will want to tandem tow. My boat is 22.5' long end to end and weighs about 3500lbs. In Minnesota the max length is 70'. We are wanting to camp around Minnesota with the boat, and to travel out west a few times in the next few years. With all that stated, we are looking for a bunkhouse fifth wheel in a 28 to 30 model (overall 32' or less). We like having 3 or 4 bunks in a separate space. I'm not looking for a lite model, knowing they are not suited for tandem towing. I don't have a truck yet, but am looking at super duty Ford diesels. We've looked at a few campers, and are starting to get a sense of what we like and don't like. Please offer suggestions on which camper manufactures and models to search for. Thanks!

Trying to resuscitate this thread. I am in the same situation here. I would like to hear experiences from folks that have pulled their boat behind their fifth wheel too.
  • Thanks, I'll search for those you recommend. I discovered the keystone sprinter 297fwbhs online but haven't seen one in person yet. According to the specs, it's 31.5' long and has quad rear bunks. It really looks like it would fit the bill. We looked at a 2007 Dutchman Denali 28B. We really liked it, but it might be too long with the boat I have. Any thoughts on either of those, or is there one similar that we should be looking at? Thanks again!
  • Jayco makes bunkhouses in their Eagle line, but I do think those are close to 40 footers in the newest models. Perhaps they did make smaller bunkhouses in earlier model years. But Jayco would be one manufacturer you could check on.

Hitchhiker made a bunkhouse in their Discover America series a few years back, but I suspect few were made and it would be hard to find one. But another good quality manufacturer.

Final suggestion from me is no longer made, but these were considered good fifth wheels. Made by a Canadian company, and bunkhouses were made. Titanium by Glendale.

You may try a site called RV Trader.com Gives one an idea of what is around them. Also some on this site, regarding the same question (bunkhouses) have suggested instead finding a model with more than one couch that can be used for beds for the young ones. The couches, along with say an air mattress on the floor in the big living room areas solves the sleeping problems.

    Best of luck!
