Hitch Choice

Considering changing the configuration on my fifth wheel and truck hookup....Which do you consider a better choice?
A: Solid mount hitch with revolution sidewinder pin box
B: Slider hitch with standard pin box

I was set on getting a slider (Superglide) but ended up going with the Andersen Ultimate which gives around 5-6" of extra clearance and allows me to get to 90* with my 102" wide trailer.

So there are even more options to consider for short bed clearance. The weight of the auto slider was a turnoff for me.

So are you saying your pin is several inches behind the center of your rear axle?

No, it attaches to the turnover ball which is just in front of the axles but the Andersen ultimate has an offset back about 3-4 inches. So, the weight is still in the right place but the trailer is back a couple of inches.

Ditto. I did the exact same thing. Now they have an aluminum version of the Andersen Ultimate at about 30 lbs. I want it. :)

Are you sure you need a slider? I have a Ford 6.75' box. In 4 years I have never came across a situation where I needed one. I've owned 2 different 5th wheels. Both had extended pin boxes (1621). One with recessed corners, one without. I had a manual slider and never used it. As up2nogood said it was difficult to use. It was hard to move when connected. I believe the sidewinder/revolution hitch puts extra stain on the pin box. Whatever you buy make sure your trailer is level and has at least 6" of clearance.
    Good luck.

Lost a rear window, so went to a slider. Got the Pullright SG. It's a great hitch, but since I've gone to a long bed DRW, went to a B&W puck hitch. Best hitch I've ever had.

Careful you too may be labeled a B&W FanBoy!

I think the article starts on page 6.

If it were me, it would be the slider B&W Hitch Patriot Hitch

    Thanks!

I think if anyone is going to invest initially with a slider hitch, skip the B&W slider or for that matter any manual slider, and go straight to a automatic Pullrite Superglide, why mess with a manual slider absolutely makes no sense . I don't think even the B&W fan boys on this forum can find fault with Pullrite, but you never know ,they may come up with something.

I guess one has to have a manual slider, and use it before they can fully appreciate an automatic slider. If I would of had a clue about manual sliders I would of went with an automatic.
  • It would depend on what truck, some (GM) have fair clearance without a slider. The one Jeremiah mentioned would be a good choice if you want a slider.
