What is your pin weight %?

Number one cause of chucking is low pin weight %.

Correct name for air bags.

When the truck is loaded heavy and on the overload sprigs it is STIFF to say the least. The air springs take a little of the load off the springs and help the ride.

A lot of people use the air springs to prop up truck that is under rated for the trailer they are hauling. They do not add anything to the load rating for the truck.

I do not see how one rigid hitch will have less chucking than another rigid hitch.

We were pulling a 38 ft. Carriage Cameo and it has the Mor/Ryde pinbox, Mor/Ryde LRE4000 suspension and a Reese 20K hitch. We were getting some chucking at times on certain road surfaces.

Chucking is often aggravated by light pin weight. This was not the case with the Cameo. I was a bit over 20% of the trailer weight.

We went to the Trailer Saver TS3 air ride hitch and it farther reduced chucking on the road.

I see one of the big problems as the poor condition on the highway system across the country.

The HitchHiker has the Demco Glide pinbox and Mor/Ryde IS suspension. The ride is pretty darn good, but we still get chucking at times, but the road has to be pretty rough. One section of road in Louisiana is pretty bad and we just turn on the flashers and drop down to about 40mph to save the truck and trailer.

A friend changed to an Air Born, air ride pinbox and says it does a great job in reducing the banging and chucking on his rig.

I do not believe that a person can say absolute positively that any one hitch, pin box will work for every truck and trailer combination.

Another friend has a 3500 CC DRW chevy and was doing fine with his older trailer. He bought a new trailer and he says the truck buck and pitched like a wild horse. He tried two models of the Trailer Saver and neither one worked so Trailer Saver refunded all of his money.

HE finally went to Mor/Ryde and had their IS suspension installed. They weigh each wheel position before installing the suspension. They found a pretty unbalanced load over the two axles so they made adjustments to the new suspension in the stiffness of each wheel position. He is using the old Reese 20K hitch and is now a happy camper with the ride.

So if all else fails, you may need to consider a trip to Mor/Ryde and getting a better suspension on the trailer.

So you had bad chucking with another hitch before the B&W, with the same truck and trailer?

The Mor/Ryde pin box was designed to minimize chucking and it does that very well. It looks like a giant rubber donut surrounds the pin. It's actually quite simple in operation.

According to the TS3 info, it will help with chucking as well. But on the previous trailer we used the TS3 with a Mor/ryde pin box and on this one we have the Demco Glide pinbox.

We get very little chucking, but with the condition of the roads now, You have to do everything possible to reduce the shock load on the truck and trailer.

If you are having trouble with chucking versus bouncing, then I don't see how an air hitch will help you.

I had an air pin. Terrible chucking.

Went to an air/anti-chucking pin and as noted, much better.

I would need to hear from someone that went from a standard hitch with chucking to an air hitch and no chucking if I were you.

Many lucky devils never have to deal with chucking. I didn't with my 88 Jayco, many years ago.
