Hitch selection for SB

This will be my first FW I have towed a 30 boat 10 wide on a triaxle for years I know I need a slider and my question is Reese vs Curt. For about the same cost Curt hitch has a 12 inch slide vs 10 on Reese. How much more turn will that two inches give me. My RV is 8.5 wide. Still waiting on my new babies build date
Tks

In over 10 k miles towing have not needed a slider due to rounded corners on 5ver. I have watched very carefully and has looked close but cab is still untouched. Keystone calls it an 88 degree front cap. If you get careless and exceed that 88 degrees you will pay but that is true of all 5vers if you turn too sharp it WILL hit. It is called "jacknifing". IMHO.

4" "behind" rear axle?? Hmmmm. New one on me.

I used to be totally against that but have since changed my mind, sort of! If you are talking a heavy front end 3500 RAM no problem or similar. A lighter truck not so sure!

I agree, folks make too much of putting the kingpin a little behind the axle. His Keystone 3500RE at 4" behind the axle is taking less than 100 lbs off the front axle. The driver probably restores most of that just by sitting in the front seat. Wouldn't matter what he was driving.

Yep, 10-4 brother. Not saying good or bad, just a new one on me.
  • Your new baby ?

I would go with the hitch with the most slide length and have it installed zero over the trucks rear axle. That way you get the full benefit of the reason for a slider.

About the only time I use my Reese slider is when I hit the campground. I flip the handle when I get out of the truck to pay at the office. If I have to back up the pin is 10" behind the trucks rear axle which makes for much less steering input. Other wise I never use it.

  • PullRite for auto slide, B&W manual slide and regular companion no slide.

I would never use either Reese or Curt.

  • Most all recent 5th wheels have a tapered front cap that makes those tight turns easier without fear of damage. I had a slider on my last truck and never used it primarily due to the shape of the trailer's front cap.
