Sorry to hear about your daughter, mental illness is a very difficult thing to get under control.
Regarding the truck height, yes they are tall. Too tall if you ask me. It does nothing much for ground clearance either as you still have the differential and/or transfer case to worry about. I think it is ridiculous that I have to get out a step stool or climb on the bumper to check the oil in my truck.
