Sorry to hear of your family issues, that really is a tough situation.
As has been suggested, dually pickups do have smaller tires and hence a bit lower height. You are also approaching trailer weights where a dually should be seriously considered anyway.
I would recommend a good used Ram 3500 dually with an exhaust brake, especially if you plan on towing in the mountains often. The 6.7L Cummins has an excellent exhaust brake from the factory where the 5.9L Cummins requires one to be added.
You may also find you need to still lift your trailer to be level. We were lucky ours has adjustable spring hangers to allow it to be lifted. It is still slightly nose high but acceptable.
