Thank you all for your nput and kind wishes. The brothers F350 is an FX edition with 20" wheels. It is moot at this point for now. Depending on the daughters progress we still hope to get away for at least six or eight weeks in early 2017. Although I have a very open mind about acquiring a 1 ton I will try to find a RAM as I am familiar with that 5.9 diesel motor and I can work on it with a small degree of comfort. I believe that the early 200* year models could be had with an exhaust brake. I will start looking soon and hopefully find a one won that will fit our budget.
