Sorry to about your daughter. Mental issues are nothing to overlook and are difficult to deal with. I wish you the best there.
As far as the truck, if the RAM does what you need and handles your 5er fine, why not just install an aftermarket exhaust brake? They are a little bit pricey, but if you can buffer the bank account over the winter you'll have enough to get one installed in the spring.
My '14 6.7L Cummins has a factory exhaust brake function and it is fantastic. Slowing the rig while towing is soon nice with that engaged. If can install that function on your truck you would be very happy.
