I have a 2014 2500 Ram 4X4 and my 2016 Keystone 5th wheel slid over it with better clearance than I expected - 7-8". It seems the 5th wheel manufacturers are catching up with the ridiculous heights of the new trucks. My wife is 5'1" and I can barely see her head bobbing as she walks beside my truck. A decade ago trucks this tall were for guys wearing backwards baseball caps with big knobby tires.
Overall, here's what you need to know:
Old truck + newer 5th = miles of clearance
New truck + newer 5th = should be okay but measure twice and buy once
New truck + older 5th = likely to run into trouble
I've seen several newer trucks and older 5ths rolling down the road with the trailer pointing at the sky.
