You said everything was turned off. Then you said the converter was running. Which is it? What size converter do you have?
A 60 amp converter running wide open at 14v would probably pull over 1,000 watts. Your generator is only good for 1,600 continuously.
How about your electric water heater, was it on? Was your refrigerator on electric? The WH is probalby 1,500 watts, the refrigerator around 300.
