Honda Generators

With an Eu2000i and a EU2000i Companion you parallel them with one pair of cables and a ground wire. The Companion has a 30 amp twist lock and has a 30 amp RV adapter. When we want to run the A/C we run both units. If no A/C, I'll run one generator.

If you get two units and one is not a companion, you can still parallel then, but you need a bit more for a parallel kit that includes a 30 amp plug.

As for reliability, you cannot beat the Honda. And if they need parts or service, you can find Honda dealers all over the country. Can you find service for a lesser generator all over the USA?

We have 2 Honda 2000 units (parrelled) with the 30 amp plug. We do run the AC when we are inside and it has more than enough power to run our 15k unit. When we are not at the camper I usually turn all generators off and make sure my fridge is on Propane to keep everything cool. No need for the hot water heater to be on or the water pump - just the fridge. If we have to lay down for an afternoon nap ( were old :))we turn on the generators, cool it down and relax.

We have about $1500 invested in both units along with the added 30 amp device that attaches to the generator. I just built my own extended run tanks for both generators that will hold a total of an added 12 gallons. :B

Not the RV style 30amp, but there are cheap ($5-10) adapters to RV style.

I have both and only carry one if we won't need the air conditioning or to run any power tools.

I carry both when air conditioning will be needed or I'm using power tools.

I like the flexibilty of having both and have used them at my home when the power was out for 24 hours, also to help a friend build a remote cabin, at the storage lot to do work on the RV and when we boondock.

my Champion 3100 for just under $700 runs the entire 5'er and sounds like a Honda 3000. Is a reputable machine. Got info from this group.

You can parallel both, but to get more than 20amp current out of the standard 2000i you need a special add on kit. The Companion model has a 30amp twistlock plug (electrically only capable of 26amp, though), Standard model only has 20amp standard plug, to get more current from parallel standard model ones, you need a special breakout box with 30amp plug (can be built for about $20 in parts).

If this is only to make coffee and charge batteries, I would just get a propane coffee pot and some solar panels ;) that's the route I plan on going. Though there's sure times a generator would be handy, so I certainly get it.

EDIT: I should add I do not own one, I have just heavily researched them.
