Hot water heater
Made a mistake today, turned on hot water heater with no water in it. Now it’s not working. Help please.

Electric 'Cold' water heater elements are universal in size of socket wrench to r&r . Wattage is marked on the flange.
Turn the appropriate 120v breaker off . disconnect wiring from element Test for OHMs between the contacts. If no resistance is shown, the element is burnt. Replace it with another of simillar wattage.
