Hello folks, I'm new to the website so please bare with me... I've got a lot air trapped in my hot and cold water lines in my La Crosse travel trailer and nothing I've done so far has eliminated or diminished it any way. What I've read so far in these open forums is that it could be caused by a small leak in the inlet hose to the water pump, but I don't ever use the pump (I believe) because I always hookup directly to the city water supply line where ever I land. I guess the same problem is possible with a small leak in the city water supply line feeding pressurized water to the hot water heater, rather than the pressurized water coming out of the fresh water pump/tank. Has anybody experienced a problem like this? If yes, what did you do to help find and fix this problem?Thank you in advance...Barry

Air is not going to leak into pressurized water lines.

What symptoms are you seeing to say you have air in the line? I get some sputtering the first time I use the water system, but it goes away quickly (within a few seconds) and doesnt happen again until I either have an empty tank or disconnect from the city water.Also, remember, you are supposed to have air in the hot water tank to allow for expansion. Even with that air in the hot water tank, I get very little sputtering once the system is running.What are you experiencing?

Just guessing at this but if the city-line water pressure (or flow rate) is too low and you have your water pump turned on then the pump will draw air into your pressurized water lines from your empty tank. I would put about 10 gallons of fresh water into the tank and disconnect the city-line. If the problem isn't resolved, you can just empty the tank.

There may also be some initial air coming from the hose connecting to the city water inlet.

it can take time to purge all the air.how does the water look when it comes out where your city hose is attached, maybe the park water has air in it somehow?

I think the comment that every time you connect to city water, you introduce air into the water line is correct.

When we connect to the campground water, I first run water out of the hose to flush the water pipes and get the air out of the hose, then, after I connect to the water inlet, I turn on the cold water spigot to purge any residual air trapped in the system.

As stated I cannot see how air would seep into a pressurized system.

OP:
It's not a bad idea to partially fill your freshwater tank , in order to use the pump to finish a shower or dishes etc. ( it can be a useful backup water supply)
Often at campgrounds, they lose their ability to pump water for various uncontrollable reasons.

You could try this to see if you still have the same symptoms that you're having from a city water hookup .

An air space is maintained at the top of the tank. When you fill the tank there's no place for the air at the top to go so it maintains this area for expansion.
The TPO isn't there to release air, it's there to open in the event of either excess temperature (which destroys it) or pressure.

It is possible and it is required for proper operation of the hot water system.

Take a look in your water heater manual.

You can remove this pocket with the pressure relief valve you should not.

Do the symptoms go away after being hooked up for a while? If they do you are not bleeding the air from the hose when hooking up to the water connection. When you hook up tighten the city end of the hose but leave the other end slightly loose until you run some water thru it and expel the air.
