I had just replied to a topic about an RV roof and it got me to thinking. We are camping right now is a SP. Unfortunately we are under a walnut tree!!! Boy are those walnuts loud when they hit the roof, I think the wife had to change her shorts twice already!!! LOLAnyway moving to another site is not feasible as the campground is almost full. My question is, can the roof be damaged from the falling walnuts? I will get up there and check later but it is raining now. Thanks, John

I wouldn't worry about a few walnuts, a couple years ago our trailer went through a major hailstorm. Most of the "tin" campers were heavily damaged or totaled but ours came through with only a broken taillight. But my truck had over $5000 damage.

No that kind of stuff won't hurt the roof. Most damage comes from low branches cutting the rubber. It doesn't take much.

No. I once saw a pic of a trailer that had a large tree fall on it and nearly cut it in half. The roof rubber was just pulled down into the trailer but not torn.

Hi,I am in the process of recoating my roof right now. The original roof was coated at 15 years old, and now is 18 years old. The coating did not last to well, and I suspect that it is because I did not prep most of the roof by cleaning it really well before coating it. Where I had put on the coating really thick, and cleaned that area well before coating it, that section was still in good shape, and not able to pull it off. Other areas had thin coating and scrubbing the dirt off tonight with a washcloth and try with a towel would peal some off, leave some behind. That coating was Herculiner, a bedliner, and it was recommended by the manufacture for 101 things to apply it to, including RV roofs. My hope was it would be tough to branches, and not slippery, and it meets both those needs. However I did hope it would last more than 3.5 years! This time I am coating the roof with a RV roof coating. I recommend coating the roof before it is 10 years old, so that there is something for the roof to stick to. My roof is basically falling apart, due to the "Shedding" effect of a rubber roof. This keeps it looking clean (because it sheds dirt and EPDM both at the same time) yet the RV will have white streaks going down the side of it. I don't have the contact info about the roof coating in front of me, but can get it. . . Fred.

I thought I would just use some eternabond to cover the hole. It is right on the edge. Probably won't be able see it from 10,000 feet either!!! lol

The AC covers get very brittle in a short time. Just one more poor RV product.

Okay guys, just got up on the roof and checked. The roof is fine, the AC shroud..... not so fine. Had a walnut punch through the shroud. I just checked and they aren't cheap!!!

Guess it will be eternabond to the rescue. I will just put a piece over the hole.

Told Momma, if the eternabond doesn't work then we will just bite the bullet and by a new 5er... Didn't work, she saw right through that plan.

Any way thanks for all the responses. Still got almost a week of fishing left. Woohoo!!!

All roofs will leak if the sealing material is compromised. That is where most leaks come from. Other leaks from damage.

I think there good and bad about both types of roofs. I have never had a problem with any of the three rubber roofs. But I do scrape off all the old Dicor and re seal and never have any leaks. If I were to get a hole like from a Palm Fran It would be an easy fix.

Four of us on out street at the rv resort were talking about roofs. Bluebird guy and the Beaver MH guy both said they would not have an rv with a rubber roof. The 3rd guy had a rubber roof as we do. Both MH guys were fighting a roof leak. Kinda got a laugh from that deal.
