How much trouble to convert 30 amp to 50 amp?

The only time I damaged a 30a cord was when my DW decided we needed both AC's. It worked but the plug end was toast

I would just put in a separate 20 amp cord for the second AC. I did this, and it works out great. I n the winter when I don't need the second AC I don't plug it in. And I can still use 30 AMP sites.

Not to hard to do if you have some basic electrical knowledge. You will need to buy a new power panel to do it correctly.

Low voltage may be what is causing the heating.

30 amps should not be run continuously at over 80%--i.e. you really only have 24 amps to "play with".

An alternate solution is to add a 2nd 20 amp shore power cord for the 2nd air conditioner.

I just did the 30amp to 50amp upgrade this past spring to my 1996 Jayco Designer Series 5th wheel. I couldn't be happier to have the extra power available. It wasn't really a hard job to do. I say if you like your trailer then do the upgrade.
