How much weight comes off the tongue?

For every pound you put in the garage area - how much comes off the tongue weight - I know there is a definite science to figuring this out - but looking for a ballpark calculation!

IE. every 10 pounds will take off 2 pounds from the tongue?

We have a tow behind Rubicon 2900 toy hauler. I'm not sure where the water and waste tanks are, and we do travel with 1/2 tank of water (normally).

I will have to have my DH climb under the trailer and see if he can locate the tanks - however I think the underbelly is enclosed.....

  • There really are to many variables to predict this with any level of accuracy. The only way is to load up your rig and go get it weighed. As each toy hauler varies depending on the placement of the axles, where the water/grey/black/fuel tanks are and of course what is being loaded and how far to the rear that weight really is. When we loaded our Raptor I notice only a couple hundred pounds came off the tongue weight with our two Sportsman 500s all the way to the rear.
  • Lots of variables. Where are water tanks located at, where are grey/black tanks located, do you travel with full water, do you empty all of your tanks before you leave etc? How many axles, axle distance from the front and rear. etc.

In my experience, my water tanks are in front of my axles. So when I have full water, my pin weight goes up even though I load a 2700lb sand rail in my trailer.
