I did it again, argh!!!!!!!!

OK so I'm an idiot....... For the second time in the last 5 years I have failed to lower my TV antenna on our trailer and busted it. Last time was easy, just replaced the elevator gear and all was good. This time I broke the mast and the gears so I have a bit more work to do. The after market Jack antenna survived the ordeal so that is re-useable. Is there a source out there where I can just buy a rebuild kit or do I need to buy the entire assembly. Also considering the Jack unit that is fully self contained but I worry that it may catch a limb and break as well since there is no provision for lowering it. Help me out here.

  • I've been lucky so far. Last winter heading south I had gone probably around 40 miles after leaving camp when 18wheeler pulled alongside and honked and pointed up. I knew immediately what he was saying. Luckily KY. has some high bridges and I didn't hit anything.
  • I put our truck keys on the crank. But being the truck is your main transportation maybe a 5 to 8 inch piece of colorful cloth hanging from the crank might help.

I have also seen lots of TV antennas up when on the road. The wife and I have tried many times to get the attention of the driver or passenger without any luck.
  • I see a lot of that, going down the road. Always wondered what happens to them.

Maybe its time to hang a ribbon by the door of the trailer to remind you when the antenna is up...

Thanks Roy, I just watched some YouTube videos and checked Amazon, looks like I can just get the elevator gear and masts as separate parts and fix what I have for about $30 to $35.

I do have one of those "idiot signs" that was hanging from my visor. Problem is that the previous day when we were out driving around I tucked it up on the visor so it was out of my way but forgot to drop it back down when we got back to the camp site. Old age is affecting my mind........

Some folks have a card hanging on their truck rear view mirror with reminders on it...

I smacked mine real good once forgetting to lowering it down... It was the older type so I needed to replace it with the UHF DIPOLEs type anyway...

I bet PPL has parts too for it...

    GOOGLE is your set bet...
