I got lucky!!

I was pulling into Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park this past Friday. I didn't get there till about 3pm so the campground was already full by the time I got there. There was a truck sitting at the Ranger shack/pavilion. I had to swing wide to get headed down the row I was in and the rear corner of my camper scraped the black rubber trim part of this trucks bumper. Well I get into my spot and here comes the campground host to tell me what I had done. Oh ****, what a start to the long weekend! I didn't even feel anything. I went over and talked to the guy who owned the truck and he showed me where it scraped. Honestly you could barely tell anything happened. The rear corner of my camper had more of a black "scar" than his truck. He was very nice and I, of course, apologized profusely and said I would pay for any damage. We talked for about fifteen minutes and both agreed... no harm, no foul. A magic eraser got rid of the black mark on my camper. I guess God was watching over me because had I turned a foot sooner things could have been much worse. I guess the moral of my story is... All you new/rookie fiver pullers be sure to watch your rear because with the wheels so far forward on most of these rigs, the rear of a long fiver,(mine being 37ft) will swing wide during a tight turn. I learned a valuable lesson at a bargain basement price!

EDIT:
Really... c- r- a- p- is a bad word!?!?

I think we should be able to spell out anything that comes out of a waste tank

    :)

Only if you had an accident or near miss that you knew about and it's running down your leg. Well I guess in that case it would be two accidents.

I'm glad to hear that it wasn't serious.
  • Yup, bad word. Possibly because one generally types the "c" with the middle finger... ;) Just kidding.
  • I did that to a bush that had stronger, thicker branches then I thought while pulling into a spot. Didn't bother apologizing for the two scrapes it put in the compartment bay door. It happens to us all.
  • Thanks for sharing this information. In tight places I always watch the wheels on the fifth wheel, if the wheels clear the rear end will clear the object also.
  • Glad everything turned out all right and you had a good weekend.
  • I am impressed you got that size of a rig in Davy Crockett with it about full. Haven't been there in a while, but remember it was tight with the 32' fiver we had at the time.
