I installed a bolt-on receiver on my bumper. I then added a cargo carrier. I put some simple braces on the corners of the carrier to stop any twisting. I had this set-up on my previous TT for 5 years. Transferred it over to the 5er. It is very sturdy, I have stood on the tool box to wax the 5er and it is solid. Here is a pic.
