Insurance question

Hi! We have a 2003 5th wheel that the front siding peeled back on our most recent outing. Do you file that with your car insurance or your RV insurance? If it's found that it was caused by a leak, will insurance even cover it, is it worth even filing?

And wind damage. Insurance will pay if the siding blew off due to the wind while under tow. Typically its called comprehensive insurance. It should not pay if the failure was caused by a leak or poor construction. Typically, the policy states the loss is caused by a sudden and unexpected fire, hail, wind, or water flood event or an act of God. A rook leak is not sudden but rather a slow process of damage so that is why it is not covered.
  • Another thing to keep in mind is if you file, they WILL inspect it. Is it solid enough that the inspector won't decide it's no longer insurable? They will always look for every way out. If it were me, I'd fix it myself as to not risk future coverage. The insurance companies will enter a finding like that into a national database and can cause trouble getting insurance from any company down the road.
  • You can try but they are likely to resist if it's obviously lack of maintenance.

  • file you,ll never no, and thats what your paying for. if covered great if not move on.
  • If it is determined to be as the result of a leak it may be denied for 'lack of maintenance.'

I've got a friend who was paid out by his insurance company when the siding started pealing off his old 5ver while driving down the highway. My guess is that it was his RV insurance that covered it.
  • Probably easiest to just handle your self,I do not think most insurance would cover this or just say it was not cared for correctly so not to cover it, plus the age of the unit might fall into play as well, let us know what you end up doing. Good luck
