Short bed is 6.4' on the Ram, 6.5' on the Ford and 6.6' on the GMC Chevy. Axle placement relative to cab distance varies also. I am no slider, see my signature below. All this aside, I concur with pick the fiver first.
My 2015 Ford F-350 SRW short box measures 6'-8" Which makes Ford the longest short box on the market. I don't know where you got your information but it is wrong!
Not the total box length, but the distance between the rear of the cab and the centerline of the rear axle.

I WILL buy the one that fits my needs and I appreciate the input regarding things I may not have thought about. In case y'all are wondering, the short box is the winner. Been full timing in our MH for almost 3 years and haven't come across even one SB owner that wishes they had a LB.

That's all fine and dandy if people with short bed trucks stay within their trucks load ratings as in rear axle specifically.
Short and long bed trucks don't have different rear axle ratings. Usually a like equipped long bed truck has a lower payload rating than a short bed because the bed weighs more. - cummins2014Explorer

I know this applies to all trucks but the short bed crowd seems to be the ones going down the road with their azz dragging and nose in the air.

Pretty easy decision for me....SB fits in the garage, LB does not.

Your biased for short beds is clouding your vision. It applies to all trucks, and should have been left at that. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Oh, if you have your mind made up about buying the truck first, IMHO buy a dual wheel 3500/350 with a long bed, at least with that set up you would not be limiting yourself when it comes to the 5th wheel!
EXACTLY!!! Because everyone buys a bigger and bigger RV every time!
