Is this safe?

Thanks for all the replies. It appears that this hitch, Pro Series 15K with the slider has the issue of too much play around the king pin. We would not get this one again. Trying to work things out with the dealer as we were told we were getting a Reese hitch. We ended up with a bottom line Pro Series. Not happy! Have an awesome day.

I have a B&W Companion hitch and if it is adjusted correctly there should be no movement under the legs, they should lie tight to the pickup bed.

My superglide will bang if I stop or start quickly.
I never thought of the problem being between the rails and base. I'll have to look into that and go buy a bike tube or something.

I had that same hitch and it made a horrable noise, lots of banging from day one. Put up with it for little more than a year. Spent some extra bucks and bought a Hensley BT3 air hitch with duel shocks. Made all the difference in the world, no more slop at the pin as this has jaws that circle the pin, airbags and shocks to almost eliminate all trailer bounce and chucking. A much easier ride on any road.

We have a slider and there is absolutely no noise at any time, rock solid. If a hitch is making that much noise and the pin has that much slop then there must be something not right.

If possible have someone else stand outside the vehicle and start/stop gently or until they hear the sounds you are referring.

I made these out of an old bicycle tube and put them between the bed rails and bottom of the hitch. They did help reduce some noise. You could double-up these but it may take more pressure than the 5th wheel being connected. There really isnt as much space as you may think.

My old hitch did the same thing. But cut some shims from conveyor belting material I have. Unreal how much they helped out.

Didn't look it up but my thoughts exactly. I have the super fifth by pullrite. I think it is ok lots of owners love them but sometimes it can be a pain. That being said it has a single jaw that fits pretty tight around the king pin. I have never heard a bad thing said about B&W hitches,every body that has one loves it..

If all the mounting bolts on your hitch are tight then turn the gain up a little on your brake controller. If your trailer brakes are adjusted properly then the trailer will stay back in the yolk when you are stoping. Sounds like you are using your truck brakes a little more than the trailer brakes.

There may be an adjustment bolt in the area where the pin is held in place by the hitch mechanism. That bolt takes up any excess slack that may exist between the pin and the holding mechanism. Mine has such a bolt and it was adjusted one time when new.

BTW, mine is a Hijacker hitch.
